In the field of cell sorting and recombinant antibody production, 50nm magnetic beads have long been considered the crown of the industry, once dominated by several major foreign nanobody companies. After years of collaborative development with leading universities, AlpVHHs has successfully broken through the technological barrier.
Alfabeads™ COOH magnetic beads represent a new generation of high-performance magnetic nanomaterials featuring superparamagnetism, fast magnetic response, high-density carboxyl functional groups, and excellent monodispersity. These beads are optimized for applications including VHH antibody screening, nanobodies purification workflows, and recombinant antibodies R&D.
Key Physicochemical and Functional Data
Particle Size Detection
Field emission transmission electron microscopy (FE-TEM) revealed that Alfabeads™ COOH magnetic beads are monodisperse secondary structure nanoclusters formed by the aggregation of primary single crystals with a particle size of 3-6 nm, with an overall size of 50 ± 3.5 nm and uniform morphology. This uniformity is particularly beneficial for VHH and nanobody display libraries, ensuring reproducibility in binding assays.

XRD Analysis
X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the crystal structure and phase composition of the Alfabeads™ COOH magnetic beads. The results showed that the carboxyl magnetic beads were completely consistent with the face-centered cubic structure of magnetite (JCPD # 19–0629) standard card, indicating that the Alfabeads™ COOH magnetic beads are typical superparamagnetic Fe3O4 with high purity.

VSM Detection
High magnetic sensitivity and good magnetic manipulation are the most important characteristics of Alfabeads™ COOH nanobeads for biomedical applications. Using a magnetic measurement system (MPMS), the magnetic saturation intensity (Ms) of Alfabeads™ COOH nanobeads was measured to be 62.34 emu/g, exhibiting negligible hysteresis and demonstrating superparamagnetic properties.

Surface Potential Detection
The surface potential of Alfabeads™ COOH magnetic beads was measured using a zeta potential meter (ζ), and the potential was -48 mV. The results show that the surface of the magnetic beads contains a high concentration of carboxyl functional groups, which gives them excellent colloidal stability in physiological environments such as water systems.
